Last ever Ford Falcon Ute debuts

Last ever Ford Falcon Ute debuts

Ford Australia has released an image with the final Falcon Ute shown in XR6 trim.

After introducing the new Falcon and Territory, Ford's Australian division is completing the puzzle with the last ever Falcon Ute. All these models will be locally produced until October 2016 when Ford will close up shop in the Land Down Under, thus effectively eliminating 1,200 jobs. This decision has been taken as a result of high manufacturing costs and market fragmentation.

Getting back to the 2015 Falcon Ute, it borrows the fresh styling cues from the regular model and comes as standard with new 16-inch steel wheels as well as body-colored front bumper and door handles. The XR6 seen here adds revised 18-inch alloys, front fog lights, rain-sensing wipers and LED daytime running lights. Other novelties include Ford's SYNC2 infotainment system, dual antenna system, digital radio DAB+, WiFi hotspot support and a voice control system called "Karen" developed to Australian specification.

Under the hood of the base and XR6 models is a locally-built inline-six 4.0-liter gasoline engine developing 261 bhp (195 kW) and 288 lb-ft (391 Nm) of torque. These two trims can also be had with a 4.0-litre straight-six EcoLPi engine rated at 265 bhp (198 kW) and 302 lb-ft (409 Nm) while the Styleside box XR6 Turbo variant is motivated by a 4.0 inline-six rated at 362 bhp (270 kW) and 393 lb-ft (533 Nm). Depending on engine choice, Ford is offering a six-speed automatic transmission, six-speed manual or a six-speed auto with manual mode.

Pricing for the 2015 Ford Falcon Ute will be disclosed early next month.
