Porsche has announced plans to bring theproduction-ready 918 Spyder at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
It was more than three years ago at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show when Porsche unveiled the 918 Spyder concept and now they are about to introduce the production version. Following the launch of the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari, Porsche's newest offering in the supercar segment will also be a plug-in hybrid, mixing a V8 4.6-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors and a 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The mid-mounted conventional power unit outputs 608 HP (447 kW) and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque, while the electric motors deliver an additional 156 HP (115 kW) and 129 HP (95 kW). This hardware setup provides the Stuttgart supercar with a combined output of 887 HP (661 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm).
Porsche says the 918 Spyder needs 2.8 seconds until 62 mph (100 km/h) and 7.9 seconds to reach 124 mph (200 km/h) from a standstill. 0-186 mph (0-300 km/h) should take 23 seconds before hitting a top speed of more than 211 mph (340 km/h). Despite the impressive performances, the 918 Spyder will be a frugal car as fuel consumption is rated at just 3.3 liters / 100 km (71.2 mpg US or 85.6 mpg UK) with 79 g/km of CO2 emissions.
