Volvo has officially unveiled their Concept Coupe ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Designed to signal the end of Volvo's "vanilla days," the Concept Coupe is a luxurious Gran Tourer that previews the company's new styling language.
Starting up front, the Concept Coupe has a sporty front fascia with a 'floating’ grille and T-shaped LED daytime running lights that will become a hallmark of the brand. Moving further back, we can see a contoured hood, a stylish greenhouse and an elegant rear end that recalls the iconic P1800. Other notable features include a panoramic glass roof and 21-inch alloy wheels.
The luxurious styling continues in the cabin as the model is equipped with premium leather upholstery, grey wood trim and gloss black accents. There's also a head-up display and a large touchscreen infotainment system.
Motivation is provided by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 2.0-liter Drive-E petrol engine and an electric motor that powers the rear axle. It enables the model to produce a combined maximum output of approximately 400 bhp (298 kW) and over 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque.
According to Volvo's Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath, “The Volvo Concept CoupĂ© is no futuristic dream car. It is designed to demonstrate the capability of our new architecture: the confident stance, the proportions and the most prominent design signatures. Even though the all-new XC90 is an entirely different type of car, you will recognize the connection instantly when it is revealed next year."
