Honda reveals Euro-spec HR-V crossover prototype before Paris Motor Show debut

Honda has announced a near-production HR-V concept in European specification will be showcased early next month at the Paris Motor Show.

In January 2013 at NAIAS in Detroit we saw Honda’s Urban SUV concept which went on to become the JDM-spec Vezel. A few months ago, the U.S.-spec model was revealed with the “HR-V” nameplate which will also be used on the European version set to debut as a near-production prototype approximately three weeks from now at the Paris Motor Show. The crossover also has a third name as in China it will be sold with the "XR-V" designation and a slightly different apperance.

Based on the upcoming all-new Euro-spec Jazz, the HR-V seen here is a compact crossover with "one of the most spacious and adaptable small SUV cabins" as a result of moving the fuel tank under the front seats. The interior will benefit from Honda Magic Seats providing a wide array of seating configurations and the ability to completely fold down the rear seats when there's a need for more cargo room.

For the moment details concerning the engine lineup are not available but most likely the 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel motor will be offered. In addition, spy shots have shown a Euro-spec prototype testing with a 1.5-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine.

Full details will be disclosed on October 2 when the Euro-spec Honda HR-V will be unveiled

in Paris. Sales will likely begin towards the end of the year or early 2015.
