Honda to compete in the Daytona Prototype class

Honda has announced plans to compete in the Daytona Prototype class of the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
Set to battle Nissan and Mazda, the car has a ARX-03b chassis and a twin-turbo 2.8-liter V6 engine that is based on the company's J35 V6. While most racing engines are relatively bespoke, Honda says key production-based components include the "block and heads, crankshaft, direct injection fuel system, valve train components, drive-by-wire throttle, alternator, sensors, [and] fasteners." The company goes on to say the engine even uses a stock oil filter.
According to Honda Performance Development COO Steve Eriksen, "This is a great opportunity for HPD and our customer teams in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. Adding a Daytona Prototype effort alongside the proven HPD-Honda chassis and engine combination in LMP2 provides Honda with a strong and balanced attack in the inaugural TUDOR Championship."
The car will enter competition later this month at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
