Quartz concept shows Peugeot’s SUV of the future in Paris

Following an online reveal last month, Peugeot has officially unveiled the Quartz concept at the Paris Motor Show.

Riding on massive 23-inch wheels, the model is described as Peugeot's “SUV for the future” and features a dramatic exterior styling with sharp lines and short overhangs. The front bumper incorporates massive air intakes and radiator grille, while both headlights and taillights benefit from LED technology.

Motivation is provided by the 500 HP HYbrid drivetrain that includes a 4-cylinder 1.6 THP turbocharged gasoline engine with 270 HP (198 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) an 115 HP (85 kW) electric motor which charges the 400V battery during deceleration. At the back of the vehicle there's another 85 kW electric motor for propulsion and battery charging.

In electric mode the Quartz can travel for 31 miles (50 km), while in Road mode it uses the combustion engine and the front axle-mounted electric motor. When Race mode is activated, the concept uses the combined output of the THP engine and the two electric motors.

Other notable features are the limited slip differential and the pneumatic suspension, which is automatically adjustable and offers a ground clearance varying between 300 mm and 350 mm.
