2014 Land Rover Discovery unveiled

Land Rover has taken the wraps off the 2014 Discovery facelift which will receive its first public outing in a few days at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

It's quite difficult to spot the exterior differences but Land Rover has modestly revised the front bumper, grille and headlights which now have different LED daytime running lights. Alloy wheels have also been redesigned while the "Land Rover" badging on the hood has been replaced by the "Discovery" lettering as seen on recent Range Rover models.

Powering the 2014 Land Rover Discovery is the same 3.0-liter SDV6 with 256 HP (188 kW) at 4,000 rpm and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) at 2,000 rpm, but the engine is now more eco-friendly as CO2 emissions have been reduced from 230 g/km to 213 g/km, while fuel consumption has been improved to 35.3 mpg UK (29.3 mpg US or 8 liters / 100 km).

The power unit is mated exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission provided by ZF and enables the 2,570 kg (5,665 lbs) off-roader to do the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 8.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h).

Land Rover has added a series of safety features to the revised Discovery, such as blind spot monitoring, wade sensing, reverse traffic detection and T-junction cameras, along with closing vehicle sensing. Clients can now opt for an 825-watt, 17-speaker Meridian Surround whereas the standard 380-watt system has only 8 speakers.
